Our protagonist Katniss Everdeen (played by a pre-Oscar Jennifer Lawrence) slowly grows from being a Hunger Games victor to the unlikely hero that becomes the face of the rebellion against the Capitol. Every year the Capitol organises the Hunger Games, a gladiator-esque event that is televised for the entertainment of the Capitol citizens, where each district sends two contestants to fight to death with the other district’s contestants. The Capitol houses the government and the fortunate few who control all the resources of the land. The ruins of North America have been divided into 12 districts, each one serving to fill a purpose. Based on the eponymous trilogy by author Suzanne Collins, the series is set in a bleak dystopian future. Arguably one of the most underrated young adult novels-to-movies series, Hunger Games is surprisingly relevant for all age groups.
